Understand Your Three Selves

We are near halfway through 2021. For many this means revenues, projections and elevated stress levels. In expanding upon this Harvard Business Review article I have previously referenced - “To Lead Better Under Stress, Understand Your Three Selves,” by Tony Schwartz, Emily Pines, and Kashera Booker, demonstrates handling stress through three selves:

The Child Self.
The Defender.
The Adult Self.

Growing from the powerless Child to the Defender (created to cope with threats); to finally cultivating The Adult Self, mature and capable of regulating emotions and making the best decisions. The dominant self in a given moment depends on our environment and our colleagues.

In our coaching practice, we work to help you develop the awareness of all your “selves” and understand your behavioral patterns. Coaching in combination with that process is key in facilitating the habits and commitment you need to succeed.
